Hi Jeremy!!
Sounds like a lot of fun!
Our camera stabilization efforts only address the problem of excessive
package rotation. You won't have that. I would suggest you just hook
it all up and GO!
During Field Day last year, Tim Sargent KD5DTW came out with a kite and
a dual-band HT. The HT was set up for cross-band repeat (same one we
sent up on a balloon). It worked, but it was suspended from the kite
and thus swung around wildly. Any kite radio gear should be attached
firmly to the kite structure, not suspended. The oscillations get out
of control!
Kite-launched ham payloads will work. One version I recall had the
payload mounted near the kite's balance point in between the position
where the tether lines were attached. I have not investigated the
QST article.
I am posting this to the South Texas BLT remailer (sans pix) to see
if there are some ideas out there.
Keep us posted!!

Subject: building a kite
Hi, Andy
My friends and I are/have built a large payload lifting kite, I found the
plans in my April 2000 QST mag. attached are some pics of the building
process, we are planning to use some of my friends atv stuff and transmit
some video from about 400ft, also I am planning to build a simple repeater
mabey crossband using some frs handheld radios or some hand held 11m cb's
and a vox kit that has a relay. Could you tell me how to stabilize the
camera, if it is even possible? Any tips?
Thanks,
Jeremy
KD5HIM
P.S. I am the one in the blue shirt, my friend kieth in the red shirt, and
my friend jd in the grey shirt.
