The following article was in today's Katy Times.  It should be interesting
to all "balloonatics", especially if they like to use their HT's or portable
ATV.

Balloon Observer training set for June 3

	Those interested in ballooning and would like to volunteer to be an
Observer or Crew for The Texas Balloon Classic in Katy need to call the Katy
Area Chamber of Commerce at 281-828-1100.
	Ballooning Observers are competition officials whose duties include, the
impartial recording of particulars of positions, times, distances, etc.,
achieved by a competition balloon pilot and crew. Observers will need to
know the rules of. competitive ballooning and be able to report both the
pilots' success in achieving their goals as well as apparent infringement,
of competition rules.
	During the Texas Balloon Classic, observers will have a ringside seat for
several competition flights. Observers will see, and may even be invited to
fly, with their assigned pilot.
	An observer training class will be offered by The Lone Star Balloon
Association and Texas Balloon Classic June 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the
Equestrian Center at 2501 S. Mason Road.
	Crewing consists of 4-5 people assisting the pilot in laying out,
inflating, and when finished, packing up the balloon. Training for Crew will
be held in early June.
	The Texas SummerFest and Balloon Classic to be held at the Great Southwest
Equestrian Center on June 10-11.
	The Festival will include the Hot Air Balloon Competition, Katy Go Texas
Cook-off, over 100 Food & Vendor Booths, Live Entertainment, and a full
scale Carnival & Games.
	The SummerFest promises a weekend of fun with a gate admission of $2 per
day for adults and children are free.  There will be live entertainment from
9 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, including a dance on Saturday evening and a
"Balloon Glow", and live entertainment until 6 p.m. on Sunday.
	Although the balloons take flight early on both mornings, and afternoons, a
special "Glow" event, produced by the balloonists, is scheduled for Saturday
evening.
       With the multitude of events, media attention, and draw of attendees,
the SummerFest & Balloon Classic offers an excellent opportunity for
sponsorship and advertising. Please contact the Chamber for more details.
