Greetings!

This Saturday at 8 PM there will be a small-payload,
small-balloon launch.

Details for BLT 18.5:

Livingston, Texas
May 18, 2002 (Saturday) at 8 PM
Fireball Rev. 3.2 & 300 gr. Balloon
Beacon frequencies = 14.152 & 28.322 MHz
Power output per band = 50 mW
Signal type = CW "beeps"
Telemetry = outside temperature
Telemetry format = beep rate is inversely proportional to temperature
Payload weight = 5 oz.
Estimated max alt. = 80,000 feet
Rise rate = 800 ft./min.
Rise time = 100 minutes
Fall time = 18 minutes
Ground track is unknown...

CPM*	Deg C	Deg F	Altitude
265	+30	+86	0
210	+20	+68	500
95	0	+32	16000
38	-20	-4	22000
23	-30	-22	25000
14	-40	-40	30000
8	-50	-58	35000
6	-55	-67	40000
4.5	-60	-76	45000
3.5	-65	-85	50000
2.5	-70	-94	60000
3.5	-65	-85	68000
4.5	-60	-76	75000
6	-55	-67	80000
8	-50	-58	86000

Note: CPM = Counts per minute

After burst things will get really cold! The count rate
will drop back to 2.5 CPM, the signal will flutter and
fade, and might even disappear for a while!

Last year we tried to use non-Y2K compliant helium, and
it was leaking out (bad stuff). The payload got caught
in some high-tension lines and FRIED. We have repaired
the payload, obtained another balloon and some Y2K-compliant
helium... and are ready to try it again!

Enjoy!

Andy
