Greetings all-
My name is Bud Talbot (KB9WVG) and I am a physics teacher at Elkins High School in Missouri City and the sponsor of the EHS Amateur Radio CLub. I also teach an engineering class. This spring, we are planning to construct and launch a high altitude balloon as a joint project between the engineering class, a chemistry class and our ham club.
I have attended one BLT launch but never constructed and launched a craft of my own. Another teacher and I have been doing a lot of research during the past year and we have made some valuable contacts with others around the country. We would certainly welcome any advise and expertise that BLT people could offer. I have a Powerpoint show and unit plans describing our endeavor that I would be glad to share with those interested. Essentially, we are planning the following:
Balloon capable of reaching 80-100k ft. while collecting air temp and pressure data and transmitting the data real-time via APRS (along with gps data). No camera, tv etc- just ax25 packets with location, temp, pressure.
If you are interested in helping the kids work on this project you can contact me off list at this email or at school: robert.talbot@fortbend.k12.tx.us
Thanks and 73
Bud Talbot
