About 6 months ago I picked up a pair of x10 DVD Anywhere's and thought I'd
share shat I'd found out about them. Overall, I'm very impressed with the
units. The only real problem I had was that the video level on the receiver
was a bit low, but that didn't take long to adjust.
After finding that the frequencies were essentially the same as the Wavecom
units, I decided to see just how difficult it would be to re-tune the units
into the ham band. After looking around in the "can" I noticed that the
channel selector switch did not connect to anything that resembled the PIC
chip we've heard as I understand is the case with the Wavecom's. Instead,
it simply selects on or 4 voltages which from a voltage divider network
which, I assume, is fed into the local oscillator circuitry. I also noticed
that there were two pots available to adjust these voltages. These are the
two pots side-by-side just below the power light. I don't quite know yet
what the one in the center of the can does.
So, after a bit of nervous trembling and noting their initial settings, I
tried adjusting them. I found that I was able to adjust them so that the 4
channel setting corresponded almost exactly to the frequencies that
Wavecom's use with the new PIC's. Unfortunately I don't have the equipment
to be able to retune the receiver, but it looks like it would be just as
easy to adjust. Once I figure out some way to adjust the receiver, I think
I'll retune everything into the ham band.
So it looks like re-tuning these little babies into the ham band is almost
too easy to believe. I have to assume that the frequency is likely to drift
slightly but the AFC on the receiver seem more than capable of compensating
for a slight drift.
Have a good day.
