I wish to appoligize to all to whom I sent the email to last night and more
importantly to the Summerfest Organizing committee. I inserted myself with
good intent, but in the wrong way. What I should have done is wait until I
had a response from Joe before sending anything out(and thus wouldn't have
sent anything out!). Below, is a portion of the response I received from Joe:

Greetings, Michael:

I have been on top of this since I saw the article about it in the State and
Local section of the paper this past Monday. The situation is being tracked
for us by Alvin DeVane WB5HZQ, the retired head of Traffic Police for APD.
He has been in communication with all of the appropriate state and local
functionaries that are a part of this construction operation and he will
keep us apprised of the situation as it develops.

I do not think it well advised for you to spread this news across the state
until we know with reasonable certainty that our convention weekend will be
the start of this process. Current indications are that it may be slipped
out into August.

Our plan is to have a set of easy-to-understand alternate routing
instructions prepared in advance to post on our SUMMERFEST web site when we
know it's really going happen that week-end. Also, the same set of
instructions will be used by the 146.34/.94 talk-in team for routing
purposes on the days of the convention.

We do NOT want to discourage prospective convention attendees from coming to
Austin because of the possible traffic complexities ...

Thank you for your concern.

Organization Committee
