Well for ATV, you cannot beat FM TV...easier to deal with,
less power and linearity problems to deal with....beautiful quality..
Of course FMTV of usable deviation is limited to 900 and above..
439.25 gets clobbered by FM voice rptrs in the 440-445 output range..
also for a 439 tv xmitter, I would not try to push a 420Mhz range
radio UP....a 450-470 will do just fine....you can modify a T44 MICOR
(dont bother with the old tube rigs! Tubes costs more than the whole
radio is worth nowadays :) but you then have to modulate the finals..
that is a problem in itself....You could use a Hamtronics exciter or
VHF Engineering exciter but then you are facing having to use a true
linear amplifier on the output (Class A or AB or B only...not a FM
Class C amplifier)...to get the power level up...
Just giving you the facts..its up to you if you wish to try it..
(been there, done that....got the P3 picture almost 20 years ago!)

PS would not run subcarrier...cleaner to run a separate FM exciter
like the big boys in TV do....
