Henry,
Sorry I have not been in touch re the above. I spent most of this past
week in bed in a stupor. Some killer flu. High fever, throat swollen shut,
dizzy, the usual. I finally staggered into work Friday and gave up after a
couple of hours. Today my head at least seems to be operating on the same
planet as the rest of the body. Mary had this the week before and the kids
the week before that. Something you want to avoid if at all possible. I
haven't been this sick since I was four years old and ate five pounds of
cherry cordials in half an hour.
BTW, Chicagoland Public Television has three Vinten Fulmar pedestals that we
are trying to find a home for. This are the big old guys with the three
small humps inside the wheels -- like NBC in 1960. In addition to the big
steering ring, they also have a secondary handle for a dolly grip to use if
so desired. In beautiful condition, rebuilt by Vinten about three or four
years ago. They just kind of overawe BVP 900 cameras. Vinten tells us that
they don't support them anymore as an OSHA issue. They operate at over 500
PSI and take about half a tank of gas to load up. Otherwise, they are real
beauties. Everything works very smoothly on them. If we can't find somebody
that wants to use them, they are going to the recycler. We would give them
to anybody that would come pick them up at 450# or so each, delivery is not
possible. We do have a forklift for putting them into a truck, FOB. Getting
them off at the other end would be another consideration. If one of your
charities would be interested in receiving them, let me know. There might
even been some Mark III heads around for them. We are phasing the Mark III
out for some reason in favor of the Vector 70. The station is a little
dodgey about giving stuff to Channel 56. Something about their being our
competition. ?? I gave some Vidifonts and 528 WFM, and a pile of U-matics
to them, and had my asshole adjusted for a larger fit. But anybody else in
Indiana, or a school would be fair game, for instance. Or if one of your
video cronies wants them for historic items that would work too. Fact is,
once they leave the back door, who knows where they go?
Bob
