[HATS] Linking repeaters-best technology-best security-least hassles

We have been using IRLP here on the Big Shanty system in Atlanta.
I have been using I-phone since the day after the first version was
released in about April 97.
I wasted time with Repeater Link and some other VOX based repeater linking
contraptions until I finally heard about Dave Cameron's IRLP project.
The Big Shanty system (home of the Atlanta ATV repeater) became about the
50th node on the network back over 2 years ago. Now with about 350 nodes,
it is even more robust than the professional voice-over-IP telephony
systems I work with in my profession.

The security automatically uses PGP between nodes and there is virtually no
way your node can be brought up from another one unless it has been
authorized into the system. No goofballs on PCs coming up making funny
noises or worse. Just good crystal clear audio and high bandwidth for
many-party round--table hookups. There's no problem if you have a dynamic
IP address and operation is very simple.

After playing with this since '97, as I said, there''s no way I would touch
anything else. I strongly suggest you become a part of the IRLP system and
save a lot of grief!
