Jacob,

The two transmitter approach has been used successfully by HATS for quite a
few years. When you put audio and video through the same transmit amplifier
(or even a single antenna), some level of sidebands is inevitable. The use
of vestigial sideband filters will bring these down to an acceptable level,
BUT you must have enough bandwidth to do that.

By using two separate transmit systems (HATS uses a surplus commercial radio
for its audio), you can avoid lower sideband issues. HATS used a simple
70cm audio antenna mounted on top of the multibay video antenna quite
successfully for many years.

Also, since the audio subcarrier is down several dB from the video, the
audio output power requirements are lower than those for the video. I seem
to remember about a four to one ratio -- but check it out before doing any
serious design.

Good luck,

Ron, AG5RS
