Gang,
I will have a "Get-Well" Card for Doug at the Saturday morning of the HQRP
Club (that's 11/20 in case you have other things on your mind. Let's have
a good group to sign the card and wish Doug well.

>Gang,
>Joanne (Doug's wife) called just a bit ago to let me know how things
>went with Doug today.
>
>Doug underwent triple bypass surgery from about 8am to 2pm, and is now
>in ICU recovery. Within the last hour (about 7pm PST), he has "come
>around" enough to be aware of his wife's and daughter's presence.
>According to Joanne, everything went well, and they're hoping to get Doug
>up a bit tomorrow afternoon, and out of ICU wednesday or thursday, and
>hopefully able to return home early next week. He will be recouperating
>at home, and off of work, for 6-8 weeks.
>
>As most of you know, Doug is a high school biology teacher and is as
>dedicated to his kids as he is to QRP. He told me last night, the hardest
>thing about all of this is arranging for a substitute teacher until
>after the holidays, and resigning as the girl's basketball coach, a job
>he's loved for 16 years. He knows he needs to rest well for awhile, but
>will return to his school, and his hobby, with the same fervor as before,
>I'm convinced.
>
>I've received countless emails from QRPers wanting me to convey your
>best wishes on to Doug, which I will (and have tonight to Joanne). I
>appreciate your concern, as does Doug. For those wishing to send a card
>or get-well wishes, Joanne requests you send them to the house, not the
>hospital. Doug's home address is:
>
> Doug Hendricks, KI6DS
> 862 Frank Avenue
> Dos Palos, CA 93620
>
>Joanne will hand deliver them to Doug until they get to bring him home.
>
>The concern for Doug expressed warms my heart ... not because it's Doug
>... but because it's an expression of the fraternity this hobby has always
>been about, and inspite of our occassional differences, it is so nice to
>see how strong our fraternity remains amongst QRPers. And I'm sure there
>will be the same level concern in the future should any of our brothers or
>sisters need our support. And should that occassion arise, please let us
>know.
>
>Joanne wanted me to thank you for your concern and prayers. It has
>kept both her and Doug strong over a few very difficult days for them.
>And I thank you as well.
