[HQRP] Polarity Reversal Protection Device

The information below regarding the "transorb" polarity protection
device used in land mobile radios, comes from the LMR mail list. I
thought it might be of interest to the "polarity challenged" among us.
"A transorb acts like a diode in one direction and like a 16 volt zener
in
the other direction. Protects the radio coming and going...ECG has a
generic in their catalog...There are two different sizes, a 600 watt
generic part number:P6KE20A, and a 1500 watt generic number 1-5KE20A. We
always order them generic...due to major cost difference...I think we
have purchased them in the past from Richardson Electronics.

I never used a transorb but at $.60 each for the low power they seem
like a good idea.
