As it has worked out, I'm the owner of two of these. Only need one and am
willing to part with it for my investment of $8.66 (no I don't have a
reader's choice card).

He wasn't kidding folks!
I had asked John for a clarification on that: I didn't find anything online
about the ARRL Handbook for Radio Amateurs being on sale for 8.00.
John told me it was at Bookstop on Shepherd and Alabama (the old Alabama
Theater).
My local Bookstop and B&N (Baybrook Mall area) were selling it for $32.00.
This evening before the Zoo Society lecture I was going to attend, I
stopped
by the Bookstop on Shepherd.
There was one book left.
It was tagged as $32.00.
I took it to the counter and asked the clerk about it. He scanned the
barcode and said, "Yes. It's $8.00. But, I don't know why." He went on to
say that the sale books are selected and priced at their 'headquarters', so
he doesn't have any say about it."
He asked if I had a Bookstop Readers Choice card and I pulled it out and
amazingly enough it was still good (01/31/01 expiration). He scanned it
and
rang me up.
A whopping $5.20.
Not bad.
