[HQRP] February's Meeting

This month had been a great program!

Bill Hickox's, K5BDZ, talk on Baluns and Chokes was very informative and
entertaining. The free screw posts and solder was an unannounced treat.
Much more so for George Pierce, W5GFP, as he had just lost a roll of solder
that very morning. Wish we had had the time to hook the various examples to
the analyzer. Bill also provided a nifty gel cell charger schematic.

Ron Sparks, AG5RS, repeated his presentation on using EZNEC for
Windows - antenna modeling software. I got a better perspective on how to
set up an antenna data set (via AutoCAD). He also showed how to import a
pick-up truck into the model, for use as a ground plane for mobile antennas.
The various examples and their plotted radiation patterns (in elevation and
plan) is pretty cool.

Two door prizes were given away. First, Andy MacAllister, W5ACM
donated a copy of Rich Arland's new book, Low Power Operating published
by the ARRL. Catherine, my daughter, won that one. We really (really!)
didn't fix the drawing, but I've been surprised, of late, as to how she's
been winning door prizes on a regular basis. My XYL is actually looking the
book over, wondering suspiciously, why I swoon over the Doug Hendricks
forward in the book.

The second prize was a kit from Steve "Melt Solder" Weber, KD1JV. The Wes
Hayward, W7ZOI - NE555 based keyer. John Moore, KK5NU, won it and hopefully
won't sneeze while soldering the surface mount parts onto the board.

Respectfully submitted, (and looking forward to next month)
Mark, K5MGJ
