Howdy , Folks,

Held the joint Jan/Feb meeting yesterday with 7 attendees. Discussed Ham
Com topics and future activities and miscellaneous items. John, KK5NU,
has updated the web page with this info at http://www.hqrp.stevens.com/

March meeting will be held at Luby's on March 22nd -- agenda to be announced

April 26th will be 'QRP in the Park' -- join us for a fun day of QRP
operations in Memorial Park. Details as we get closer.

Ham Com 2003 -- June 20,21 The HQRP group will have a fine showing in the
QRP Presentation Forum:

Modeling Stealth Antennas --AG5RS
A look at 'low profile' antennas from a deployment and performance
aspect.

QRP Contesting - A Primer -- KG5U
QRP mode contesting primer with a top QRP contester

Switching type power systems for the QRP'er -- joint AG5RS and Howard
(call? sri )
A practical look at switching power supplies and charging systems

Practical Loop Antennas for the QRP'er -- W5RH
Full Wave Loop Deployment -- Start with a house on a lot and end
up with a loop antenna farm

Information tidbit:
Did you know that during 2002 the ARRL Technical Information Service (TIS)
handled 14,000 inquiries for information AND that antennas were the topic
of over 50% of those 14,000. Antenna systems are very important, as we
all know, and are, most probably, not really understood by the general ham
population......remember the old adage ' a dime spent on the antenna is
worth a dollar spent on the radio'......a most important point in our quest
for QRP performance.

Batteries and power systems: I talked to Howard briefly before the meeting
about batteries, energy, discharge rates, and their relation, plus some of
his ideas for QRP power. Most excellent stuff. We should urge Howard to
continue his quest.

If you have any suggestions for March meeting topics or would like to show
off your latest 'burn solder' project...let us know.

Regards...Rick...W5RH
