Stealth antenna?
When I first moved to Houston, some 31 years ago, I was running a barefoot
HT-37 (80 watts SSB) and Drake 2B receiver. In the apartment no antennas
were allowed. So, STEALTH..........
I took some dark colored enameled #26 magnet wire (approx 36 feet), tied one
end to a silver-dollar sized washer and flipped it over the 2nd story rooftop
over our two story apartment (no insulators, no tie-off, just
lie-flat-on-the-roof). The other end I brought into an L network inside the
first floor bedroom window. Ground was a 3' ground rod (covered with
disguising mud) also with dark wire into window and to L network ground.
First 20 meter SSB contact on Saturday morning was Guam.... then 2nd contact
30 minutes later was Israel. 5x9 in each instance with reg-chew qso about
the antenna, etc.
Stealth DOES NOT MEAN if "you can't see it it won't work".... Stealth merily
means that even though you can't see the antenna it CAN work and often does
surprisingly well! To quote the unoriginal but oft loved K5QLF, KISS!
