It's getting very near to Tuthill '03, held on July 25, 26 and 27, at
the Fort Tuthill Fairgrounds, just South of Flagstaff, AZ. 7000' in
elevation, the site is a welcome relief from the desert/lowlands heat,
and is the largest Hamfest in Arizona as well as the locale for the
Arizona State Convention. Flea market and commercial vendors. Not to
mention the QRP gathering :^).

We have a great lineup of speakers, and have managed to find a bit of
history for Dr. MotorCycle, Jim Duffey (KK6MC/5). A photograph is at his
website (<http://www.qsl.net/kk6mc>)

"Hi, my name is James Duffey (Hi, James), and I hold amateur radio
license KK6MC. My alter ego is Dr. Megacycle. Some people ask me how I
got the moniker "Dr. Megacycle. Before 1967, frequency was measured in
cycles per second, not Hertz, a million cycles per second was a
Megacycle, abbreviated Mc. My call ends in MC or MegaCycle, and I have a
PhD in Solid State Physics. Presto! Dr. Megacycle is born. I was first
licensed in 1965 at age 15 as WN0MWN and upgraded to General a year
later as WA0MWN. I held the call N7ATB when I was at the University of Utah
in 1979. I liked that call, but evidently I checked the wrong box when it
came time to renew that call and the FCC gave me a new one. It doesn't fit
in the 5 call area now that I live in New Mexico, so I have been thinking of
getting a vanity call."

Dr. Megacycle is one of the most helpful and respected resources on many
subjects that are discussed on the QRP-L mailing list. He is much
sought after around the country as a speaker for both his technical
knowledge and humor. Dr. Megacycle will be talking about a favorite
subject for many, SWR, and will joined by:

Dr. Bob Armstrong (N7XJ)(ARS Sojurner Contributor) with his Wilderness
Backpacking and QRP experiences,

Ron Sparks (AG5RS) talking about getting started in Antenna Modeling and
then ANOTHER session on modeling that Stealth Antenna so you can operate
effectively right under the nose of that homeowner's association,

AND our own Dan Tayloe (N7VE) gives you all the technical scoop on the new,
Az ScQRPion Class E transmitter kit being released for sale at the
convention.

Twenty lucky souls, who agree to build it at the convention, will
receive one FREE (see website for details on how to get in on this)!!
All building and testing equipment will be provided, along with expert
troubleshooting assistance from the designers (W5JH and N7VE) at
building sessions on both Friday and Saturday morning!!

This little jewel has lots of extras not ordinarily seen in a simple
transmitter kit! In addition to the VXO exciter stage and that high
efficiency Class E final amp on your choice of 40m, 30m, or 20m, it
features completely electronic antenna switching and external receiver
muting! Hitch it up to your favorite standalone receiver! This one
just begs to be modified. VFO, extended range VXO, and more POWER
(won't be QRP anymore) are just a few things we know about. All this
for only $20 delivered to your house! Pictures are available here:
http://www.swlink.net/~w5jh/azsx303e.htm.

As you can see, we again have a first class line up of subjects covered by
experts for the QRP HAMFEST part of the Arizona State ARRL Convention at Ft.
Tuthill!! So far, our luck appears to be holding for good weather
conditions with NO nearby wildfires to smoke out the festivities!
Music. Mandolins, guitars, and whatever else you can play. Reserved
camping area! Pancake breakfasts Saturday and Sunday mornings! Friday
evening gatherings at a local restaurant and brewery are known to occur!
QRP cookout on Saturday night (bring your own meat, everything else is
furnished)! Prizes!! Zany QRPer's and a few other folks! Radios and wires
in the pines. Great way to spend a weekend in the cool mountains of
Arizonia!! Y'all come!

You really shouldn't miss this one!
