Hello to all,
I have started a list because of growing interest in FM voice
operations in the 420-430 MHz portion of the 70 cm amateur radio band.
Although this part of the band is primarily used for ATV operations by
amateurs,
it is also used little for this function in some areas of our country.
In certain areas, fm voice operation has been used for years on these
frequencies.
Another recent boon to this band has been the increase in used federal
government radio equipment showing up on the market. Due to the NTIA
(National Telecommunications and Information Agency, the FCC of the US
Government) mandated switch to 12.5 kHz channels effective: 01 January
2006, a good amount of equipment is finding its way into the used market.
Sometimes at very reasonable prices. Other than users in the three US
cities listed above, the only other people currently authorized for
communications in this band are the US Amateur Radio operators.
Like what happened to the US eleven-meter amateur band, and more recently
to the 220-222 MHz amateur band, by not utilizing this portion of the
band, the specter is always present to reallocation to the commercial
services. The precedent has
already been set in the Midwest.
My goal in this list is to have a forum for the exchange of ideas, and
for those who know something about commercial two-way radio equipment to
assist those who don't. I like to keep things simple. If you have an
idea or comment, please
pass it along to the group. I also don't have any delusions that this
will be a 'high volume' list. Days or a week may pass without anyone
posting a message.
