A)the articles no longer pertain to the area I'm

B) the articles are not geared to the average
atv'er,but seem to for the highly skilled or engineers,,,
C)seeing some items in German.while I have been
in Germany ,I don't speak the language and don't want to pay for a
magazine that has German in it...sorry.
D) would like to see some articles of a more
basic nature.....more on how to build antennas,
amps.,build and test ...yes test
pre-amps...maybe a reader's column..q..and a...
E) A COUPLE OF PAGES OF SOME BASICS FROM TIME
TO TIME,FOR NEW COMERS.

Gene and the group,
Yes, I also agree with most of what was said in your letter, I do not know
German either, but I don't mind that so much, but it could be suggested to
your German advertisers to maybe consider English when advertising.
Yes, I agree, lets get back to the basics, ATVQ could surely use growth,
growth is good for any publication, then that growth is going to come from
"new" folks, new to ATV, or new to Ham radio, these guys/gals, sometimes
don't have a clue about what they are doing or how to get started, I bought
the books ATV Secrets I & II( I recommend these books, especially for those
who are "new" to ATV), and asked questions and visited websites to find info
about ATV, so that I might learn how it all works.
What I believe most folks want is to know how to assemble a station,
assemble a repeater , build antennas, these folks, some, like me are just
working on this part of it, we are a long way from doing fancy video
clips(although was interesting) and such, since we are would just be tickled
pink if we had a TX, a camera and a piece of cardboard with our callsign on
it.
Maybe if we could have one article of a more advanced technical nature,
or article for the guy that already has all the ATV equipment he needs, and
wants to do fun video stuff, and the rest of the magazine with articles like
mentioned above( see D, E, F, G).
How about if we have a famous past articles column?? with a reprint of
old articles revisited?? If the articles were so good back in the 70's 80's
maybe it would be good to have a look at them again???Maybe the articles
ccould be re-written to apply to current times if needed( if some parts are
not available, then maybe suggest a newer, more available part). Many of the
"new" hams haven't seen these articles, I 'd love to see them. I'd love to
see some of the articles that were in other ATV publications that are now
defunct, prehaps something could be worked out with
authors/publishers(Spec-com, A5ATV Magazine) How about some articles on
converting gear, like the conversion of the Hamtronics TX boards for ATV??
How about an antenna contest, design the best antenna, as far as gain and
signal quality.
Here's an example, I have been tinkering with a set of 902 mhz Gemini
"Rabbits" a TX and RX, I'm working on a couple of antennas for them, then I'm
going to use them for QRP ATV for our Field Day activity, we will get points
for the ATV and for it being QRP, it will probly be the only band active
above 70cm at our site.
I totally agree with this statement "D) would like to see some articles of
a more
basic nature.....more on how to build antennas, amps.,build and test ...yes
test
pre-amps...maybe a reader's column..q..and a."
I, however am not prepared to run out on ATVQ yet, I have seen a couple
of interesting articles , although I wasn't able to take the information and
do something with it then and there, it was something to think about (it was
interesting), and learn from for future use.
I hope that Gene and the other authors are not upset with my opinion, it
is not intended to be hurtfull, but is intended to be helpful advice. I
understand that Gene has his hands full with ATVQ, and I know it's sometimes
hard to get articles, I would be willing to write an article, but I don't
think of my self as being technically proficient enough to write about ATV.(
I'm still trying to learn from you guys) But, I'm sure that there are some
folks out there that have the know-how and are willing.
Thanks for the bandwidth, 73's to all, John Hamilton KD5INM
