Our Honery Field Day Chairman, N5WU has suggested that we begin planning
for the FD earlier this year. Thursday the week before (like last year)
may be cutting it a bit close.

SO...here come the official announcement...

Unless we change our minds, it rains or a majority of the party change
their mind and don't show up...there will be an A QRP FD effort for
2001.

Field Day is the last full weekend in June. I make that out to be June
23 and 24.

The location will likely be the same "secret site" as last year. It is
high above the rest of the world and so cool last year, I had to have a
blanket to sleep during the night, yet within an easy half hour drive of
anywhere in the Austin Metro area. Details and maps will be distributed
to all participants prior to the event.

Last year we did class 1A Battery with two real operators and me. One
transmitter class. This year, I would like to expand our effort,
perhaps we could get enough operators to stay on the full 24 period.

In spite of operating only about 21 hours, we did pretty well in 2000:

KQ5RP finished #1 in 1A Battery class in the South Texas Section, #1 in
1A Battery for Texas, #1 in 1A Battery in the Fifth Call Area and #15
nationally in that 1A Battery Class.

If anyone has ideas to improve the effort and expand the fun, lets hear
them.

1. I am working on improved shade. Last years shelter blew away
(actually it blew down on N5FC) during the night.
2. Sam has committed his K2 again. That is real good.

I will be in touch with the "secret" site owner this week to be sure we
are still welcome.

If you think you may be interested, reply to this email and I will put
you on the FD 2001 list.
