On Saturday, July 19, at about 8:20 a.m., we experienced a sudden and
complete failure of the disk containing the operating system and data
for several domains and services hosted by STEVENS.COM.

The failure required replacement of the disk drive and installation of a
new operating system. It also required recovery of data files,
configuration files, and programs not included in a new operating system.

Since the failure occurred during a backup procedure, we had to recover
using files stored on a remote site that were up to a week old. That
could have an effect on you if you had new information on your site or
in your account.

The outage lasted from 8:30 a.m., Saturday, until as late as 8:30 a.m.,
Sunday.

We think we have restored everything that is recoverable, but there may
be some pieces of data or functionality that we missed. Please report
any problems to us, <mailto:dave@stevens.com>, and we'll see if further
recovery is possible.

We regret the inconvenience. Hardware and systems will fail, but we will
continue to strive for a high level of service and reliability.
