[HQRP] 49 MHz talkies in Europe

The 49 MHz or so non-licensed "personal talkies" found (cheap) in the U.S in 
target, K-Mart and other discount areas.....are they legal in UK, 
Deutschland, Switz and Austria?  

We travel there and these cheap little HT's would be very handy when my wife 
get's lost in a flea-market (something I would NEVER do...Hi!)
