[HQRP] OT: Laptop--keyboard problems

Hi everyone:
Several weeks ago, I posted a message asking if someone could
send me a photocopy of the user's manual for the Toshiba T1000
laptop computer. There were several offers; I wound up accepting
both a manual (original !) and a second T1000 for only shipping costs.
What I'm asking is this: The keyboard isn't working right (this is
**NOT** to imply anything against the donor--the laptop had been in
storage for several years, and it was working OK before that), and I'm
considering cannibalizing the battery pack (the one in my original T1000
is dead) and the modem (my other doesn't have one), and install them
in my other laptop. Does that sound feasible ? I've already tried
(twice) spraying an aerosol duster between all the keys, with no results.
Some of the keys don't respond at all (no character is placed on the
screen) or else the character *and* those of one or two adjacent keys
appear (e.g., pressing "i" results in "iop" showing on the screen).
Suggestions ? Recommendations ? Thanks in advance.
