Nice pictures Ron!
Yes, it was an amazing Field Day. We stayed relatively dry, didn't get
muddy, experimented with antennas, ran QRP - even on the satellites, worked
every available satellite, talked to NA1SS on the International Space
Station, discovered that the 40-M MFJ QRP rig has a really nice receiver,
actually enjoyed high-speed CW, NO generator noise, had air conditioning in
both the operating trailer and the pop-up camper, ate a lot of chips,
enjoyed the outdoors - it was actually comfortable and had so few bugs that
operating under the tarp at 2:30 AM was not a problem. We were prepared to
bring this station inside the Pop-up camper, but didn't need to.
The location at the "Sparks Ranch" was perfect. The batteries instead of
generators did great for the whole event. No rigs died and all of the
antennas worked reasonably well. The 40-M inverted V was superb. The air
conditioned pop-up camper made a great place to sleep. We also greatly
appreciated the visitors and those like Mack, Dennis and John (WA5WOD) that
were there to help set up or provide things, but couldn't stay very long.
Pete KD5ELH went home on Saturday night, but came back in the morning to
help take everything apart!
We took a chance on the WX, and WON! We're already discussing antenna
tactics for next year. The Sparks Ranch has plenty of room for any antenna
experiment we care to try; we just need more "To The Field" enthusiasts to
make things happen! I hope to have my photos up on Yahoogroups within a
week.
